Get Started Working In Australia

If you want to improve your way of life and work in one of the most livable countries in the world, then start finding a job in Australia. There is a variety of opportunities for everyone. Moreover, living in Australia, whether temporary or permanent, offers many advantages.
Australia has given an all out campaign for immigrating. Immigrating to Australia is one of the top choices in living in a foreign country. The fact that they are making a campaign for the immigration is testament that they need you.

Australia is a place that gives you an outdoor experience while giving a great metro lifestyle. It’s a combination of the two lifestyles that compose a great place to stay over there. Australia immigration offices are catering to a large number of applicants each year and having a good load of knowledge on their policies is a big plus.
Finding Work in Australia is one of the primary aspects of immigrating. When you plan on residing in Australia because of a job opportunity then you should be able to get a few pointers on the policies currently being imposed. These policies are continually updated to have a more convenient and safe immigration process. As Australia progresses they continually need a large work force to support their commerce and industry and part of the reason why they are campaigning for immigrants. There are plenty of job opportunities available in Australia and you just have to find it.

The job opportunities:

Australia is seeking for skilled workers and migrants due to the skills shortage in the country. Several job vacancies are not suitable for Australians, which is why employers are looking for employees overseas to strengthen their work force. There is high demand for skilled workers in the construction and mining industry. Other in demand jobs belong to the healthcare and IT industry.
If you are interested to work in Australia, check out the different types of work available for you.

Temporary job opportunities in casual work

Available for you are casual work; many establishments, especially in the hospitality and tourism sectors are looking for casual workers to help them during the weekends. This can be a good temporary set up, but not ideal for long-term arrangements. This does not offer stability and does not guarantee work every weekend, which means that there is no guarantee for earnings as well.
Temporary work can be transformed to permanent and stable jobs. You just have to find a way to get there. You can appeal to your employer about it and maybe an opening can deliver a good steady earning scheme.

Part time work for students

There are part-time jobs as well. This may appeal to foreign students who need a steady source of income to help support their study and living cost. Part-time jobs do not exceed 20 hours a week. They are also bound by contracts.

The 20 hours of work per week will be a daunting task for students. It may mean working for the whole weekend, or having to take 4 hours per weekday. IF you don’t have any financial source to support for your education, then taking these part time jobs can mean a life saver. Be sure to manage you time well.

However, if you are looking for a stable source of income and enjoy employee benefits, then find a full-time job. Being a student, you are not allowed to do this because of the limits on your visa. But if you endure the challenge of keeping your upkeep and fees, then surely this is a treat waiting for you.

How to work in Australia?

In order to work in Australia, you need to have a passport from your country and a valid working visa. A foreign individual who only holds a tourist visa is not allowed to work.

Employer Sponsored Workers program

A worker may be granted visa through the Employer Sponsored Workers program. In this program, the employee is granted work visa because of the sponsorship of his employer. Such worker may work in Australia temporarily or permanently.
When being sponsored by your employer means that you should have the job offer first before you are given these privileges. You can try to have application on line or through job agencies. I would prefer to have the applications online; this presents good opportunities and is free. Agencies will often pull a hefty fee for placements that you can generally get over the net, but this process has a high percentage of success.

General Skilled Migration program (GSM)

Those who are not sponsored by an employer may also apply for work here through the General Skilled Migration program. Workers are eligible as long as they are 18 to 45 years old, can speak English and can provide skills, that are scarce in Australia.
This is made available for individuals that are deemed to have a higher probability of being offered /or offered a job in Australia. These are based on permanent residency. You will be granted this benefit if you pass the assessment of Australia immigration offices and agencies.
Entering GSM program means that you are entering Australia on your own financial capability and without any sponsor clients. There is a great risk to this, but know that you are permitted a residency visa because Australia immigration have assessed you and they see you fit for working in Australia.
This visa type may be issued in two ways: on shore and offshore.

Onshore GSM

In offshore GSM, individuals who are already in Australia but do not have any working permits may apply. You have to undergo the same process. The onshore category can be useful for foreign students in Australia having finished their course want to find work, or for Tourist visa holder finding themselves an opportunity to find a better work.

Offshore GSM

These are the types given to individual applicants who want to enter Australia with the intent to find work. You can always do pre-assessment of you employment chances in Australia.

Under these two categories are sub categories for sponsored and independent.

Sponsored GSM
This should not be mixed up with the employer sponsored program; this sub category is meant for individuals travelling to Australia through the financial support of a family member/relative or a state in Australia.
Some bonds may be paid for this subcategory before the visa is acquired.

Independent
This is based on the individuals fit for the job descriptions wanted by Australian employers. With this comes little policies and is preferred by applicants who think they have what it takes to be employed in Australia.

The types of working visas in Australia:

There are different types of working visa to choose from. Pick one that suits you best. Below is a list of work visa in Australia.
1.       Working holiday visa
2.       The work and holiday visa
3.       Professional visas
4.       Sponsored training visas

The Working Holiday Visa:

This is granted to individuals from nations that have working holiday agreement with Australia. These countries include Belgium, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Estoria, France, Finland, Germany, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan and the UK. In addition to that, the foreign individual has to be 18 to 30 years old who does not have dependents and is seeking temporary work.  The visa is good for 12 months, starting on the date of arrival in Australia. The foreign individual can have multiple employers but he can only work for a maximum of 6 months for each employer. Interested individual may apply online.

Although you can only avail of the working holiday visa once, you may apply for a second working holiday visa, provided that you adhere to the provisions of the new immigration policies set in 2005. Such new policy requires that the applicant completes 3 months of seasonal work. Seasonal work means any job related to the processing of the harvest. The work includes maintenance of the cops, picking and packing them.

Aside from seasonal work, they may also apply for second working visa holiday if they complete work in butchery, fishing, pearling and shearing. They may complete the seasonal work from anywhere in regional Australia except in ACT, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Melbourne, Newcastle, NSW Central Coast, Perth, Sydney and Wollongong.

The Work and Holiday Visa:

This is a different type of visa granted to tertiary-educated foreign individuals. To be eligible, the individual has to be between 18 to 30 years old. He should be from countries with Work and Holiday visa agreement with Australia as well. Some countries with the said agreement with Australia are Chile, Thailand, Turkey and the USA.

The visa is valid for 12 months from the date of arrival in the country. Just like the holiday working visa, this allows the individual to work for an employer for a maximum of 12 months. He can have multiple employers though. Application for this type of visa is also available via the internet.

Professional visa:

Workers from other parts of the world aside from those coming from the countries mentioned above are also welcome. They may work in Australia through sponsorship visa. This is available for foreign individuals with the essential skills needed by an authorized employer in Australia. It is granted to the applicant if the job available is full-time and that the position meets the minimum salary set by the government. The position should be approved by the visa program as well. There are various professions and industry to choose from. In fact, there are also different categories of such sponsorship.

One of the most common categories used is the Temporary Business Visa. Employers who want to hire foreign employees should be able to prove that they cannot fill the vacancies unless they hire employees overseas.

An educational visa is also available for individuals who want to be part of the educational institution in Australia. The eligible candidate must be sponsored by an approved organization. He or she may work at a school. He may also be eligible to work in a technical school. There are different positions available in the Education Industry aside from teachers. Candidates may work as librarians, researchers and as a laboratory in-charge.

The medical practitioner visa is available for doctors sponsored to work in Australia. It is vital that the medical practitioner meets the registration requirements in Australia as well as the standards set for medical practitioner. An employer should make individual application for each doctor he wishes to sponsor. Small rural communities commonly use this type of visa sponsorship, as other employers prefer standard employer sponsorship.  With the standard employer sponsorship program, the employer can sponsor several medical practitioners at the same time.

Sponsored training visas:

Australia also offers different sponsored training visas. There is the occupational trainee visa and trade skills visa.

Occupational trainee visa is available to those who want to undergo job training in Australia. To qualify, the foreign individual must be at least 18 years old who is studying or currently employed for at least 12 months. This is valid for 2 years. However, the trainee may be granted a two-month extension for him to make the necessary preparations to exit the country properly or to apply for a different visa.

You can apply by finding an organization that is willing to sponsor and train you. The said organization should be willing to nominate you for the program at the Immigration office in Australia. The nomination is essential to start the application process. You need to secure an application form from the Immigration Department and submit the same at the corresponding Australian Government Office in your country.

The trade skills training visa, on the other hand, allow you to take apprenticeship in Australia, as long as the employer failed to find someone from within the country to fill the position. This is also a doorway to permanent immigration, as this will qualify you to be nationally recognized. But first, you need to find an authorized organization to sponsor you so that you can start with the application process.

There are different ways to gain employment in Australia. To start your search, find an approved employer who is willing to sponsor you. You can use the job searches online. You can also refer to the listings available in your country. Or better yet, work with an agency to help you find an approved employer.
